I find diesel freight locomotives and industrial machinery/factories (especially decommisioned or in decay) inspirational when I play techno. I find that complementing the music with visuals of such subjects enhances the sensory immersion experience considerably. For such themes, I focus on very precise and smooth transitions, letting the tracks breathe to produce a hypnosis. The track selections are heavily minimal and very industrial sounding in nature. Sets like this are quite different from other techno mixes I make which have more hands-on manipulation, fast cutting / transitions, and variegated track selections.
