I had the privilege of sitting down with Dr. Omar Reda—Harvard-trained trauma psychiatrist, founder of the Healing Trauma Institute, and author of The Wounded Healer—for a powerful 15-minute conversation on Caring for the Caregiver. In our brief but impactful time together, Dr. Reda opened up about his own journey as a refugee-turned-healer, the hidden toll of vicarious trauma, and why self-care isn't selfish but essential for anyone in a helping profession. He shared practical wisdom on breaking cycles of silent suffering and redefining strength as the courage to heal. This is a must-listen for every therapist, nurse, social worker, or family member who gives so much of themselves to others—and needs permission to care for themselves too.
