Nguyễn Văn Quỳ was born on 2 January 1925 in Hanoi. His three biggest loves in life are Vietnam, music, and teaching. He took his inspiration from Vietnamese traditional music and French Romanticism. He composed nine sonatas for the violin and piano between 1964 and 2003, as well as many songs. His prolific composition led to the nickname “Vietnamese Beethoven.”
In our Kaleidsocope Viet show we pay tribute to Quỳ - the man, the work and his story. This is part 1 of 2 documentary style shows about Quỳ (part 2 will be in November).
