This week we take a deep dive into outsider artists. What is an outsider artist? They often make music which is considered, for whatever reason, outside of the norm. Featured artists are the Shaggs, whose music was made with no reference to popular music. Don't expect a toe-tapping rhythm, but do expect a pure creative expression which is kind of captivating.
Also featured is Danial Johnston, the poster child for outsider artists, whose mental health issues are well documented and connected to the almost naive beauty that comes with his music. We've also got Moondog, Hasil Adkins, Joe Meek, Tangelia Triccoli, and a few others for good measure.
