This week, we’re diving into 2011, a pivotal year for house music that saw a mix of groundbreaking hits and unforgettable albums. Two weeks ago, we revisited 2014—a year that brought us Calvin Harris’ Motion, Disclosure’s Settle, and unstoppable chart-toppers from Duke Dumont, Route 94, and Jess Glynne.
But now, it’s time to rewind even further to a year that saw 18 Months by Calvin Harris, David Guetta and Avicii were pioneering big room, whilst Katy B’s breakout hits and Example’s festival anthems were all part of the scene. And let’s not forget Dj Antoinne and Ben Pearce releasing their all time great tracks in the midst of it. As I dug into the sounds of 2011, I was reminded of just how influential it was.
So, was it the best year in house music history? Or was 2014? To figure it out, I’ll be exploring more iconic years in future episodes.
