Ana was joined by Cherelle Sappleton, the artist placing East London at the centre of her latest exhibition, Semblance. From now until 15th November, Sutton House on Homerton High Street will be home to a stunning set of portraits capturing the lives, loves and losses of generations of Hackney women.
The visual feast is a response to a recent report that explored black women’s empowerment in 2018, marking the centenary of women’s suffrage. Using photos donated by women of colour with a relationship to Hackney, Semblance is a dynamic encapsulation of personal memories, Hackney’s past and the radical history of Sutton House, as well as Cherelle’s own heritage.
'Semblance' is free and runs until 15th November 2019. For more info, visit www.nationaltrust.org.uk.
Catch Ana live every Thursday 12pm-1pm bringing you all the latest in East London!
