Moanin' includes some of the greatest music Blakey produced in the studio with arguably his very best band. There are three tracks that are immortal and will always stand the test of time. The title selection is a pure tuneful melody stewed in a bluesy shuffle penned by pianist Bobby Timmons, while tenor saxophonist Benny Golson's classy, slowed "Along Came Betty" and the static, militaristic "Blues March" will always have a home in the repertoire of every student or professional jazz band.
Somethin' Else is a jazz album by saxophonist Julian “Cannonball” Adderley, released on Blue Note Records in 1958. It is notable for the presence and prominent contributions of Miles Davis in one of his few recording dates for Blue Note.
The twelve-bar blues "One for Daddy-O" was written by Nat Adderley for Chicago radio DJ Holmes "Daddy-O" Daylie. At the end of that track, Davis can be heard addressing producer Alfred Lion, saying "is that what you wanted, Alfred?"
