Bassist Nicolas Thys (° 1968) has already covered a very international track. The list of musicians with whom he entered the studio or performed on stage is without a doubt impressive and reads like a "Who's who" of recent and less recent jazz history. Among them Mike Stern, Ben Monder, Marc Ducret, Mal Waldron, Mark Turner and of course Toots Thielemans. Because of his participation in a whole series of Belgian groups, you can safely say that he helped determine the direction of national jazz over the past twenty years. Most recent examples of this are the Nathalie Loriers Trio with Tineke Postma, the Kris Defoort Trio with Lander Gyselinck and of course TaxiWars (with Robin Verheyen, Antoine Pierre, Tom Barman). Nicolas Thys plays double bass as well as electric bass and teaches in Antwerp. For the River Jazz Festival, he takes up the challenge to perform three times on the same evening with three different formations in three different clubs. This was broadcast on www.nessradio.com
