The stresses and strains of Christmas are beginning to show on the family of Jess, our hero; the cooker is on the blink, the dreaded guests arrive early, dad arrives late from the pub and there is pandemonium as the family falls out. “Frosty” the Snowman appears to whisk Jess into The Snowdome to save Christmas and the Christmas characters from the evil Stench. The characters of Christmas are re-imagined here as an existential troop of players. However, they are being marginalised by the forces of exploitative commercialism evinced by “The Stench”, resident of the Amazon-like palace in the Deep Dark Wood on the edge of the Christmas village. Can Jess save Christmas and its characters from the stinky Stench?
The Snowdome was a community production developed with a diverse company of local people and eventually bought to the stage at The Astor Theatre, Deal at Christmas 2016. It was written and directed by Guy Scantlebury and designed by Debbie Jeffrey.
