Marsh Fever digresses from their usual style of broadcasting this month and presents a second genre special for City Wall Radio. Augusts show is a primer on ‘The Canterbury Scene’, a much-contested label for a collection of bands whose style and sound pushed the boundaries of progressive rock, jazz fashion and popular music in general during the 1960’s and 1970’s.
Whilst the geographic location of Canterbury itself is maintained as the origin of the nexus of bands that feature in this month’s mix, ultimately the sounds and records which the scene produced are the most important takeaway.
No Marsh Fever mix is complete without a field recording. More times than not this is made up of sampled sounds from the county of Kent. This month’s recording was made in the grounds of Canterbury Cathedral, reflecting the geographic significance of this particular mix.
