⁣Marina is a composer in the most contemporary and idiosyncratic of fashions.
While sound and recorded media would seem to be the central subject occupying
her practice, she is constantly expanding her orbit by resisting and defying
the delineations of what is called art, what is called sound, and what is called
music. She does this not to prove a point - or rather to reach an end - about
genre or classification. I was surprised to learn throughout our discussion that
she does not find the distinctions relevant in pursuing her work. Marina’s
pieces are complex and expansive, often incorporating one or many collaborators
and formats. She has presented work at the Museum of Modern Art, the Guggenheim,
Secession, Documenta, and many more. Her most recent record was made in
