"I first became aware of Hanne Lippard's work when one day in the Summer of
2018, I happened upon an exhibition at Metro Pictures in the Chelsea
neighborhood of New York featuring Hanne and Nora Turato. The show boasted a
clear break from the material heavy, grandiose exhibitions littering the
bluechip spaces up and down the block, presenting instead a show where the
materials seemed to be, above all, in service to language - recorded voice in
Hanne’s case and text for Turato. Hanne’s piece played though to Gelenec
monitors perched on black speaker stands standing opposite each other across a
circle of gray fire-proof carpet in the center of the gallery, all arranged in a
way to suggest nothing than being utterly necessary to carry a voice.
