Description
Musicologist Ted Gordon dives into the history of the San Francisco Tape Music Center with host Eve Essex, presenting classic recordings as well as some unreleased archival tapes created at the center. A collaborative studio, workshop and performance institution founded in 1962, the Tape Center fostered emerging electronic practices by artists including Pauline Oliveros, Morton Subotnick, Ramon Sender, and William Maginnis. Discussion and playlist focuses on 1962-1967, when the center moved to Mills College, and also explores Don Buchla’s relationship with the center, including the development of his first modular electronic music system there.
