hugest of thanks to Jandra Böttger who i invited this month to put on an unmissable segment on schlager:
Puzzling together the loose ends of collective history, personal memory, and the special relationship between feeling and music, I use Schlager as both a personal and collective emotional archive. Journeying through postwar West Germany and into the heart of my grandmother’s domestic life, the show blends memory, theory, and chart hits to explore how Schlager became vessels for grief, guilt, and escapist dreams—at once drug and medicine for a generation that was struggling to feel in the aftermath of World War II.
