Description
While not as influential and well known as Chicago blues, the not too distant
Detroit blues scene still had a lot to offer. It acted almost as a precursor to
the former and gave rise to legends such as John Lee Hooker and Big Maceo
Merriweather. Stylistically there is also not much differentiating it from its
Midwest counterparts: electric instrumentation and piano featured prominently
playing a less-intense interpretation of the delta blues from which it stems.
The Detroit blues scene was one of the many urban blues scenes that came about
as a result of the second Great Migration of African-Americans after WWII.
