Description
Swamp blues is exactly what its name suggests: a style of blues music coming from out of the swamps/bayou around Baton Rouge, Louisiana. This Cajun, Zydeco and Soul infused subgenre is mostly characterized by its sound. The “Excello Sound” created by Excello Records, which helped establish this sound, is defined by “eerie echo, shuffle beats, tremolo guitars, searing harmonica and sparse percussion”. This style is also heavily influenced by the boogie patterns used by Jimmy Reed, Lightnin’ Hopkins and Muddy Waters.
