Description
Swamps blues is exactly what it's name suggests: a style of blues music coming
from out of the swamps/bayou around Baton Rouge, Louisiana. This Cajun, Zydeco
and Soul infused subgenre is mostly characterized though its sound. The "Excello
Sound" created by Excello Records, which helped establish this sound, gave
produced songs to have "eerie echo, shuffle beats, tremolo guitars, searing
harmonica and sparse percussion". It is also heavily influenced by the boogie
patterns used by Jimmy Reed, Lightnin' Hopkins and Muddy Waters.
