Description
The growing popularity of soul music in the 1960s brought about the birth of a
new style of the Blues in the late 60s and early 70s: Soul Blues. Taking
inspiration from the likes of soul musicians such as Ray Charles, Sam Cooke and
Otis Redding and electric blues musicians such as Muddy Waters, Elmore James and
Jimmy Reed, it fused the two genres both musically and in the instrumentation.
It was pioneered by Bobby Bland.
