Sometimes referred to as the oldest form of urban blues, St.Louis blues is a
distinct type of blues similar to those stemming from other cities from the
Midwest such as Chicago and Detroit. This style has some similarities to jump
blues and ragtime. It is very often piano based but guitar is almost equally as
prominent. The so called 'St.Louis Shuffle' is often incorporated, a drum beat
with heavy on-the-beat accents.
