Description
In "Where The Wind Blows" Glyn Phillips takes a final look at the new releases of 2017.
There are some fabulous retrospectives of Nigerian afrobeat with a new retrospective of Fela Kuti's output (curated by Eryah Badu), Mid-70s Cameroonian gandjul music by Hamad Kalkaba & the Golden Sounds - and some early 70s Peruvian pysch-pop from Jean-Paul El Troglodita!
Also on WorldBeatUK we see Brazil via the lenses of Kalibé, Sabrinha Malheiros, Benji Kaplan and Yuko Ito. There's a jazzy theme continuing with Chip Wickham and from Germany the Renegades of Jazz and Onom Agemo. There's also a bluesey theme with three tracks from Carolina-raised but German resident Big Daddy Wilson - and some fine songwriting by Denver's Andy Palmer.
Another German resident is Argentine pianist Juan Maria Solare - and talking of Carolina, there's the Portugese fado singer Carolina too. Finally, we have nu roots, abstract roots and dub from Alborosie, City Kay and Danakil meets ODG!
