Description
On this first WorldBeatUK of 2019, Brum Radio's world music aficionado, Glyn Phillips, brings you two hours of music from around the globe. There are albums from Brazil and Ecuador in South America, Mali, Niger, Sudan, Morocco and Cabo Verde in and around Africa, Canada and the US in North America, Pakistan and China in Asia, and Greece and the UK in Europe.
Glyn plays some of the forthcoming releases from later in January and February this year - as well as taking a look back at some albums released last year but only now making their way to his ears.
Check out Un Autre Blanc - Salif Keita's final recording, and hear the tales of mouldy 1970s Sudanese tapes with a message of unity and a centuries-old Pakistani musical genre with a 49-note microtonal scale that might all disappears when the last practitioner dies.
There's an emphasis on recent works by the greats of the Brazilian mpb genre and a look at Chinese love songs, Cape Verdean funaná and American country-soul!
