Description
In this first episode of the mini-series, Hidden Pockets, Glyn Phillips (of WorldBeatUK) takes you on a journey across Southern Europe from Portugal, Spain and France to Italy in search of the lesser known music, cultures and languages of these regions. Think you know Europe? Think again!
From Portugal's Algarve and Alentejo on the Atlantic coast Glyn guides you in an arc through the lands of the lesser known Romance languages: Galicia (followed by a quick diversion to the unique Basque region), Asturias, Cantabria, Aragon, Catalunya, Occitania, Piedmont and Salento on the Adriatic Coast.
Featuring music from these areas both ancient and modern, typical and fusion and with cogitations on language, history and rare instruments, this is a great chance to see and hear what's inside some of Europe's 'hidden pockets'!
So, grab a rucksack, cut yourselves a stave and join Glyn in search of treaties, troubadours and tarantulas!
And remember: don't say 'oui', say 'oc'!!
