Description
Glyn Phillips takes a look at new releases from November/December and also some cheeky advance tracks from albums due out in 2020!
We have afrobeat royalty Seun Kuti & Egypt 80, Ghanaian highlife legend Gyedu Blay-Ambolley and Senegal's Diabel Cissokho, as well some cracking 70s and 80s African material from Somalia and the little known nation of São Tomé & Príncipe. There's a focus on some homegrown sounds from Birmingham's own Carvalho and British Asian music from Unnati, Jin & Seetal, Dapps Bimrah as well as Canadian bhangra! There are some powerful female voices singing about homeland from Australia's Yalanji culture, violence against women from a Brazilian rocker and rapper, and gender equality from an Israeli-Iranian artist. Finally, there's some great americana & canadiana and an 18th C hymn with a curious story!
