Description
In the final monthly WorldBeatUK show of 2018 there's a focus on female acapella groups (Zimbabwe, Cuba and Eastern Europe), sub-themes on Love, Water and Dark Americana, re-releases of 60s/70s music from Argentina and Brazil and the featured album this month is the brilliant Calypso Guapachá - a compilation of old tunes from all over the Caribbean (not just calypso).
We check out the compilation album Bitteschön Philophon collecting together for the first time this young label's 7" releases featuring some great African artists and look at the British folk world with Wales's Lleuwen and England's The Willows and the Hickory Signals, as well as Finland's Tsuumi Sound System and Sweden's Skrömta. Oh, and a strange connection between a duo with a penchant for bookshops and Oxford University's Environmental Change Institute...
What else? Stringed instrument virtuosity from Cuba and Palestine, deconstructed flamenco from Refree and utter joy from Brighton's Nik Barrell. Enjoy!
