Description
On Brum Radio Poets this month:
Writers Without Borders The immediate idea for the group came from a performance of a refugee writers group from London, who performed in the theatre of Birmingham Central Library. This was a group specifically founded to assist refugee writers – Exiled Writers Ink, which is still going strong. Several of the founder members of WWB were at this performance and in the library café afterwards discussed the creation of a similar group for the refugee writers in Birmingham.
Once established and with a stable and regular place to meet WWB quietly grew in influence and prestige. Although the initial idea might have been to outreach to refugees it was felt early on that a wider remit was needed. It soon had members whose origins were in the Caribbean, Croatia, Iran, Pakistan, India, Kurdistan, Zimbabwe and Guyana.
