Bowie and the Spiders From Mars performed at London’s Royal Festival Hall on 8 July 1972 It was the 45th date of the Ziggy Stardust Tour, which had begun on 29 January.
This was a benefit show for Friends Of The Earth. Tickets were priced from 50 pence to £2, with proceeds going to the charity’s Save the Whale campaign.The support acts were Marmalade and the JSD Band, and the compere was Kenny Everett. The main talking point, however, was when Lou Reed joined Bowie onstage to perform the Velvet Underground songs
